Though, on the other hand, because on average females mature faster than males, having a boy first and a girl second means that they do a great job of gravitating toward each other's level and playing on an equal footing. *That* is something I never thought about before I had kids, and it has turned out to be very neat indeed.
(You wanted to hear all that, right?)

My kids are too far apart to be anything but divergent in the developmental sense (5 and 9), but at least they like the same sorts of things.
