My computer seems to have died. I would say it is untimely, but it is a nearly 5-year old laptop.
I am trying desperately to locate a windows 2000 boot and/or install disk. The laptop came with XP, which I stripped off and installed 2000. Somewhere I have the installation disk, but damned if I can find it. Which brings up other issues like the state of our basement and dis-organization. I didn't lose 'em. I do wish I had filed it with my other install disks. Only ask if you are willing to listen to a rant with compassion.
I found the XP intstall disk just fine.
sorcycat gave me a copy of a 2000 cd, but it does not seem to do the job. It loops on trying to boot from CD. Worse, I then went to S's computer (which has needed an overhaul for going on 2 years IMO), and lo and behold, it won't boot either. Two dead computers now. Great.
Unfortunately J's spiffy media center laptop runs XP. And --Gahh!-- how can you stand this keyboard? And no mouse! Ugh.
I am stuck with web mail and other crap for the foreseeable future in any case.
Still hoping against hope I can find an install disk for 2000 somewhere. Or another solution, like maybe a usb drive that I can install XP on so I can at least try to copy files off. Hm. I'd like to salvage pictures and various files for the PTO and so forth if at all possible.
I feel like my left arm's been cut off. Wait, our financial data is all on my laptop. Maybe that's my right arm.
