A competitor for string theory

A Physics PhD, without institutional affiliation and something of a surfer-dude, has put forward a new theory of everything, predicting about 20 new particles in the process, that only requires three dimensions of space and one of time instead of a set of higher dimensions.

I don't care if it pans out or not, just having such a theory will spur lots of interesting stuff, in science and in science fiction.

See an article about it here.

COOL! Thank you very much for posting this!

Of course, you just caused me to commit my whole weekend to researching E8, Lie symmetries, and particle interaction mapping.

:-) :-) :-)

If you find a good explanation of what the heck E8 is and why it existed as a mathematical puzzle at all, I'd love to see it. I'd never heard of it before. General science reporting leaves much to be desired in understanding scientific and mathematical issues.

I like it! I hope he's right.

I saw that and did a little happy dance to eddy money in my chair.

i hate string theory.
