The Friday Five

1. How long ago did you join LJ?
Nearly two years ago now.

2. How did you find out about LJ?
The lovely [livejournal.com profile] sorcycat kept telling me about it until I caved.

3. If someone introduced you to LJ, is s/he still on your friends list?
Yes.

4. Have you introduced anyone to LJ?
Yes.

5. Is your LJ public or friends only, and why?
About half and half. I want to make new friends in the various communities in which I participate. It's harder to do that if everything is locked up tight. Especially in the case of [livejournal.com profile] buddhists, which can be drama-land on occasion, and has been at times sock-puppet-infested as well. So some of my posts are public and some are private.

Guess what? I'm on a Unitarian board and it gets drama laden, too. Ugh. The whole thing with sock puppets intrigues me. Just the fact that people have time to a) troll boards and b) make up a fake identify and then c) make fake posts is interesting to me. I'm sure someone, somewhere has written a PhD dissertation about it :)

I'd hazard that there are several dissertations on the topic. It would be a really interesting anthropological or psychological topic to study, I think.

It's just anything to do with religion attracts trolls I think. Just because some of it is personal and not-necessarily-100%-rational pretty much by definition.

Interestingly our main troll has been tamed for the most part. Actually, I shouldn't call him a troll, but he's definitely an instigator. Publicly a non-buddhist, a neo-pagan in fact, he likes to tweak the newbies who don't get a lot of stuff yet. Including me when I first posted. I've actually gained a lot of poise from being on that comm. But now that he's less active, belligerent and muck-raking, the community is much less interesting, actually.
