No, it's not a protest
Apr. 5th, 2008 08:53 amThe Fairydoor 5k and Treetown 10k are on Sunday. Anybody in for a walk on Sunday?
Edited to add: Even though I posted this, I may not be up for a walk tomorrow. My sinus cold from yesterday is with me with a vengeance. I'm hopeful that the neti pot and some rest today will help, but please don't count on me. I may send
illyaa out with the girls, though, as they would enjoy the fairy doors.

Date: 2008-04-05 01:18 pm (UTC)It occurred to me, as I went to check out, that what I had on me was not proof of being an educator so much as merely proof of being on the faculty. It's just that gushy former students are so hard to carry in a purse. ;)

Date: 2008-04-05 01:25 pm (UTC)I, on the other hand, don't have proof of being an educator, unless either my child's birth certificate qualifies (maybe it should) or a paystub from the school where I am in charge of morning care does (I teach games, help with homework if needed, and provide educational/interesting crafts and activities). I suppose eventually I might have a testimonial from a tutoring client I could bring along.
The ways we formally define who's a teacher for this purpose are certainly narrow and short-sighted, aren't they?

Date: 2008-04-05 06:50 pm (UTC)I did use my paystub last year (just after I had actually been let go at the end of the 06-07 school year) as proof of being an educator to get into Origins Game Fair for free through their 'teacher's hall pass' program. I got grumbles that I was supposed to present a teaching credential, and implications that only actual teachers qualified. I guess as an administrator/office person I was actually bending the rules but, *screw them*, because as morning care and lunch supervisor I had more student contact than some of the specials teachers. And I bought supplies and stuff for morning care on my own dime too, just like a 'regular' teacher.
Have a chip on my shoulder about teacher credentialling hoops? Why do you ask?
