Got up at 2:30 am and threw up. Which did not do anything more than take the edge off my nausea. Ugh. Apparently most of my (birth) family and their SOs were sick yesterday, the kids and my parents being exceptions. Unknown whether this is a new virus or food-borne ick from the Rose Bowl party. I lean slightly toward the latter, but perhaps that is wishful thinking, in the hope I will be well sooner.

I was supposed to go in to work today. Now that is completely shot. Even the thought of food is sending me into bad territory. I'm trying not to feel guilty 'cause it won't help anything.

Mom is coming to help care for the girls, and they may go spend the night. I just want to get through the day. Thank goodness for the computer, because even reading my current book (The Chronoliths) is adding to my nausea. Music is my organizing principle right now.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] therck, I'm really sorry if I brought *another* virus into your house yesterday. I had no idea until the middle of the night. J tells me that a flash of nora virus is going around...is that the one that cuts down people on cruises, so they spend the whole time in their cabins?

We all went through a bout of intestinal flu as well. T had the pukes on New Year's Eve, and it's gone along from there. On the other hand, nothing kickstarts a New Year's weight-loss resolution like losing 6-7 pounds from a day of not-eating and (ahem) expelling.

Well, that's the first laugh I've had in the last 12 hours. I thank you for it, sincerely. I'm very sorry to hear that everybody in your house, especially T, was feeling poorly.

I think I've already lost around 4 pounds. I know dehydration is a real problem, but it's hard to tackle when sipping water makes you more nauseated. I may have to send someone out for popsicles later.

Well I'm glad I could make you laugh. It's no fun to be sick, and you just have to get through it. The rest of your clan are likely to come down with it, as well, if it's like what we had. If that's the case, I hope you all get through it quickly.

Popsicles are practically a staple in our house (especially Fla-Vor-Ice), though it's easier having a chest freezer in the basement. I brought a bottle of PowerAde to work with me today, and expect to drink it all by the end of the day.

As of this morning, everyone seems to be over it now (though we're still keeping an eye on N). If you have the same bug we had, the good news is that it's fairly short, and you should be much better tomorrow (maybe even tonight).

Thanks for the warning. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we don't catch it.

And it's not like you knew you were sick and deliberately infected us, so I'm not upset with you (but also not rejecting your regret on the subject).

All of the sisters, my son, and our nephew. It couldn't have been food poisoning from new years day since M wasn't there that day. It had to be B's party, but that's too long between exposure and symptoms to be food poisoning, but that was one hell of a short incubation period.

Yes. Norovirus, aka Norwalk Virus. There have been a couple outbreaks of it in SE Michigan recently.

That sounds like what I had. Oi.

And norovirus does have a short incubation. 24-48 hours, with 12 hours not unheard of.

Well I'm convinced, it's definitely not food poisoning. I did say it was probably was wishful thinking.

Can I have a lobotomy now please? Until this blows over.
